Not only is the actual exhibition part of the representation of a documenta, but also its long preparation phase. Even before the opening, positions are taken, theories are posed and the press searches for clues and scandals. Ever since documenta 11 it is publicly recognized that “The Museum of 100 Days” is a lengthy process to develop.

This also applies to the earlier editions, whose manifestations before the opening, however, were characterized by an effort of silence. In this studio exhibition files from documenta 4 are presented, providing insights into its preparation. The main focus is on letters, telegrams and protocols that trace developments that eventually culminate in the hot summer of 1968.
