The documenta archiv has one of the most extensive specialized academic libraries on 20th and 21st century art in Germany. More than 100,000 volumes are in the collection - including various estates and many rarities!

among others:

- the documenta 9 pillow catalog: made of linen and foam, Annemarie Burckhardt's edition is perfect for a nap. Not necessarily for the coffee table but maybe for the hat rack in the car or for the sofa at home.

- or: The book "I was a stranger and you took me where?": Created as a conceptual artistic final project by Sina Rockensüß, the book bundles the heated public debate about Olu Oguibe's "Strangers and Refugees Monument" in the aftermath of documenta 14: as a collection of social media posts from 2017 until the temporary removal of the obelisk in 2019 - the digital storm of disparate opinions in analog form.

- or: the handbook on the 1955 Federal Garden Show in Kassel, which was held at the same time as the first documenta in the Karlsaue and was a decisive impetus for the planning of the inaugural documenta.
