On Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 6.30 p.m., the launch of the web platform www.documenta-studien.de will take place in the auditorium of the Kunsthochschule Kassel.

The web platform documenta studies brings together a direct engagement with documenta’s history and present as well as reflections on wider relevant curatorial practices, formats, and institutions. It accompanies the establishment of the documenta Institute in Kassel, in order to create a public space for critical documenta- and exhibition studies in parallel with the physical construction of the institution. documenta studies is an initiative of the documenta professorship team.

Each year, an artist is invited to expand documenta studies’ field through an artistic research project. The resulting works intervene within the context of the archiving and exhibiting of knowledge under post-digital conditions.

The first work in the series was developed for documenta studies by the artist Minna Henriksson.During the presentation of the web platform the artist Minna Henriksson will be speaking about her artistic research project Abstracta – Online Archive about the Political Nature of the Early documenta Exhibition as an attempt to address the Cold War politics of abstract art in the first three documenta exhibitions.
