Sound installation documenta: Before and after Max Neuhaus

The artist Max Neuhaus coined the term “sound installation” around 1967. The two-day event initiated by the documenta forum looks at the history and present of this art form at documenta.

Opening: „Zwischen den Zeilen illustrieren“ – dem Grafiker Hans Hillmann zum Hundertsten. Studioausstellung im documenta archiv

On the occasion of the 100th birthday of Hans Hillmann (1925–2014) on October 25, 2025, the documenta archive is honoring the internationally renowned graphic artist, illustrator, and university professor with a studio exhibition in the reading room.

Opening on November 18, 2025, at 11 a.m.

Reading by Mona Yahia: Harry Kramer at "Atelier Kramer"

On 9 November 2025, writer and Kramer student Mona Yahia will read from her own works to open the accompanying program for the exhibition “In Motion: Harry Kramer, Kassel, and documenta.” The reading will be followed by a conversation with Karin Stengel.

As a celebration of the 100th birthday of the Kassel documenta artist Harry Kramer (1925-1997), the documenta archiv, together with the Museum für Sepulkralkultur and Hessen Kassel Heritage, is presenting kinetic sculptures, films, photographs and graphics from all phases of this universal artist's career. Closing event for the artistic intervention 7000 Palmen by Cosima von Bonin – Conversation with Ruth Noack

On Sunday, October 12, 2025, the Fridericianum hosts the final distribution of a limited number of palm tree pennant chains and, in cooperation with the documenta archiv, organizes a conversation with Ruth Noack —curator of documenta 12 (2007).
