The dance was very frenetic, lively, rattling, ringing, rolling, twisted and lasted a long time - that was the title of dOCUMENTA (13). The artistic director Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev claimed that this documenta had no concept, was not an exhibition, but a state of mind. The exhibition expresses itself as a confusing, inharmonic choreography that goes beyond academic text production. How can art studies, art education and individual visitors deal with this challenge?

In Tim Pickartz's dense description, which is the result of extensive field research, he emphasizes the equivalence of curatorial, mediatory, and artistic discourses and avoids a reduction of the complex structure to a few catchwords. In this way, the study also offers approaches for approaching exhibitions in general.
